Back to Seminary!
Here are some recommendations that will help you prepare for the seminary's opening meeting.
The purpose of this meeting is to inform participants and their parents and to motivate them. This meeting can be held twice a year:
Between mid-November and mid-December for the start in January of the following year, in order to welcome young people who are starting seminary.
If necessary, at the end of August for the start in September after the summer break.
The Opening Meeting
An opening meeting is usually held in units on one of the Sundays before the start of the January and September semesters.
You can determine the date of this meeting by consulting the study calendar for your area in the “Seminary—Administrative Resources” section.
This meeting is supervised by the bishop, branch president, or stake president, as appropriate. We suggest that you contact him in advance to discuss the agenda and how you can help.
Here is a sample agenda for this meeting (this is only a suggestion):
Hymn
Prayer
Welcome from the Bishop
Explanation of the semester program by the teacher
Seminary welcome video (for the January meeting)
Hymn
Prayer
Distribution of materials
Discussion of class options and schedules.
Be sure to inform parents about the year's program and what is expected of them and their children.
Welcome video for Seminary
(January kick-off meeting)
There is a welcome video for each year of Seminary. It contains a message presented by one of the Lord's apostles.
The videos below are hosted on YouTube, on the channel for seminars and institutes in French-speaking Europe. This channel is called S&I Français Europe.
The videos are organized into playlists. Some videos are to be viewed during the opening meeting, while others can be viewed throughout the year when the Scripture passages are discussed.
Tips:
Watch the video(s) in advance and download them in case you have connection issues on the day of the meeting.
Take the time to watch all the videos for the book being studied. This will give you a more comprehensive overview of how to use these resources.

Invite everyone
Young people who will turn 14 during the calendar year can begin Seminary in January of that year.
All young people on the list of potential candidates should be invited, without exception. This may even be an opportunity to reconnect with someone or a family that you don't see much at church anymore.
You can get a list of potential youth from your ward clerk.
Feel free to suggest to the bishop that he uses the ward council to make a plan to invite every potential youth to participate in seminary.
Seminary registration
Seminary registration requires parental consent.
This registration must be completed during the first year of Seminary. Parents can register their children on the website MySeminary.churchofjesuschrist.org using their LDS account username and password.
This website allows parents to monitor their children's progress in terms of attendance and end-of-semester assessment results. Parents can also indicate their child's progress in reading the scriptures.
The website “Seminary - Guide for Parents” is available. Please feel free to ask parents to read it by sending them the link.
Seminary Materials
Scriptures are the primary source of study for both teachers and students. Each student should have access to the Scriptures, either in print or in electronic form.
The Scriptures are available online at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures?lang=eng or in the Gospel Library app for mobile devices.
Each student should receive a seminary study calendar. This calendar is available in the “Seminary—Administrative Resources” section.
The student manual should only be used for students who need to take one or more classes solo at home (for in-person and Zoom classes, students do not need this manual). In this case, we suggest that students use the student manual available online on the Church website or in the Gospel Library app on mobile devices.
If a family does not have internet access, a printed student manual can be obtained. Ask your administrative assistant.
To contact your administrative assistant, go to the “Contacts” section.
