Part 1: Focus on Jesus Christ
Teach about Jesus Christ No Matter What You are Teaching
► 01 - Emphasize the example of Jesus Christ.
Skill: Help students connect what they are learning with how Christ exemplifies the principle.
Skill: Use pictures and videos of Jesus Christ to illustrate a gospel principle.
► 02 - Teach about the titles, roles, and attributes of Jesus Christ.
► 03 - Look for symbols that testify of Jesus Christ.
Skill: Ask questions that help students learn about Jesus Christ through symbols in the scriptures.
Skill: Help students have a sensory experience with scriptural objects that symbolize Jesus Christ.
Help Learners Come unto Jesus Christ
► 04 - Help learners recognize the Lord’s love, power, and mercy in their lives.
► 05 - Help learners strengthen their relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Skill: Statements that help students know and feel the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Skill: Ask questions that help students find examples of Heavenly Father’s love in the scripture passage.

Part 2: Principles of Christlike Teaching
Love Those You Teach
► 08 - See learners the way God sees them.
Skill: Study recent prophetic messages to understand how Heavenly Father sees young people.
Skill: “Think celestial” about your students to help you see them as God does.
► 09 - Seek to know them—understand their circumstances, needs, and strengths.
Skill: Seek to clarify and understand the real intent of students’ questions, feelings, and beliefs.
► 10 - Pray for them by name.
► 11 - Create a safe environment where all are respected and know their contributions are valued.
Skill: Communicate that you value students before they comment or as they raise their hand to comment.
Skill: Communicate that students are not only welcome but needed.
► 12 - Find appropriate ways to express your love.
Skill: Send a message to a student’s parent about something positive you have noticed about their child.
Skill: Testify of God’s love when it is hard for you to feel or express love to those you teach.
Teach By the Spirit
► 14 - Prepare yourself spiritually.
► 15 - Always be ready to respond to spiritual promptings about the needs of learners.
Skill: Ask a question to assess learning before moving on in the lesson.
Skill: Listen to and observe students to ask follow-up questions.

► 18 - Bear testimony often and invite learners to share their feelings, experiences, and testimonies.

Teach the Doctrine

Skill: Ask questions that help students identify and state converting principles.
Skill: Respond to questions in a way that avoids speculation and nondoctrinal personal ideas.

Skill: Prepare invitations and prompts that help students find personal relevance to a scripture block.
Skill: Start a learning activity by inviting students to ponder a personal circumstance.
Invite Diligent Learning

Skill: Resist the tendency to respond to every comment and question and invite the class to respond.
Skill: Focus on what the learner can do in class that the teacher typically does.
► 27 - Encourage learners to come to know the Savior by studying the gospel daily—study goal.
